The Hillman USS Flat Washer is a heavy-duty zinc-plated steel washer for use with 1" bolts and screws. It spreads the load of the fastener over a wider area. This stops the bolt head or nut from digging into wood and weakening it, and it helps prevent fasteners from pulling through the surface. It is designed for USS coarse-threaded bolts. The zinc plating gives moderate protection against rust and corrosion. For the best results, choose a washer with the same finish as the fasteners you are already using. Mixing different finishes can cause a chemical reaction that weakens the fasteners over time. Each washer has a 1-1/16" inside diameter and a 2-1/2" outside diameter.
